13’ Lighthouse Tender Peapod

This boat is currently being built by Penn State Abington students enrolled in ART 133: Introduction to Traditional Wooden Boatbuilding. As a multi-year project, this boat is being built on-campus to engage as many students as possible. The central goal is to provide an engaging hands-on experience for students seeking general education arts credits as well as art major credits. Through these immersive community-building courses, students not only gain an understanding of tool use and maritime history, they become more engaged with their peers and the campus at large, contributing to a positive college experience that extends far beyond the requirements of the classroom.

This project began in January 2025. The expected launch date of the boat is October 7th, 2026.
